Mike Messeroll Back to Quilt Quilt Square meanings for Mike Messeroll Christmas Tree - Mike was killed just before dawn on December 24, 2006. He was returning from the previous day's Christmas shopping, ran out of gas and was hit by a car while walking back to his car with his gas can. Mike always placed the infant Jesus in the manger of our family's Nativity set, did most of the holiday tree trimming, house decorations and cookie baking. Center Photo –Our last picture of Mike, taken five days before he was killed. Gift boxes —We believe Mike was sent to us by his grandmother, Eva, who died of cancer in September, 1983. The infant photo is Mike at 5 days old. The character “Bob” is a cartoon Mike started drawing in 1999-2000. Mike had a natural talent for inventing and fixing things. He could fix anything mechanical without instructions. Amazingly, he fixed our beta VHS at age 12! Gold Membership Star – This represents the several years of outdoor learning Mike had with our G.S. troop #1359 . Mike could pitch his own tent, paddle a canoe solo, build a fire and cook his own meals by the age of 9. He often commented to friends, “everything I know about girls, I learned in Girl Scouts.” Airplane Pin – Mike and his father had a special bond through flying. Mike had his first solo flight on his 16 th birthday, at Princeton Airport . He has a large collection of pins from places we visited. Eagle – The enamel pin is from his sister, Amy, and both pins represent the song “On Eagles' Wings” that was played as we left the church for the cemetery. “He will raise you up on Eagles wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the Sun, and hold you in the palm of His hand.” |
