Educating New Jersey communities on the need for more people to become organ and tissue donors is a primary
goal of New Jersey Organ and Tissue Sharing Network
(NJ Sharing Network).
Our “Champions for Life” volunteers are a vital part of this important effort. Understanding the facts and life saving benefits of organ donation is critical in deciding to become an organ and tissue donor.
The “Champions for Life” Volunteer Program consists of transplant recipients, donor family members, living donors, those waiting for transplants and members of the public who have a commitment to organ and tissue donor awareness. Volunteer activities include educational presentations, office work, special projects, staffing awareness events, specialized committees, media interviews and internship opportunities.
History of the Volunteer Staff
Since the founding of NJ Sharing Network in 1987, volunteers have always had a presence in helping us to achieve our critical life-saving mission of promoting organ and tissue donation. This small group of individuals began as a grassroots volunteer staff who worked on a task by task basis. Today, NJ Sharing Network’s volunteer staff consists of close to 400 dedicated individuals called “Champions for Life.” Members of “Champions for Life” help out in a myriad of ways from office work, community outreach, public speaking, media events and serving on various boards. It is the true spirit of giving that not only characterizes our volunteers but our life-saving cause as well.
