Creating a Quilt Square

Size: Each quilt square design should be 10 inches by 10 inches. When you cut your material, leave about ½ inch of extra material around each side for sewing. It is important that the design in your square be within the 10 inches so that it can be included entirely.

Fabric & Sewing: You may use any color or type of fabric. Use any medium to design your patch: (for example, crayons, fabric paint, permanent markers, appliqué, cross-stitch, embroidery, needlepoint).

Pins, patches, buttons or other embellishments may be attached. Please sew everything onto your quilt square securely and avoid using glue as it will dry out over time.

If you are including a photograph on the patch, have it laminated or transferred directly onto the fabric by a copy or print shop.

You may choose to include your loved one’s name and dates of birth and death.

Narrative: Many families include a memory of their loved one or a written description of the meaning of their patch. This will be included in booklets that accompany the quilts.

Quilt pinning ceremonies are included in our Donor Family Recognition Program and our Celebration of Life and Rememberance event. As this is an ongoing project, quilt squares can be submitted at any time to:
