attention to special need for organ and tissue donations

The need for organ and tissue donations grows more crucial each day. Minority communities are especially affected. Statistics indicate that a disproportionately large number of children and adults in these population segments are waiting for a transplant. August 1st was established as National Minority Donor Awareness Day to bring attention to this health crisis.

New Jersey's minority populations are steadily increasing. As a result, so is the need for life-saving transplants and donations in the state. This year’s event took place in Plainfield, NJ with the endorsement of the Honorable Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs. Also present were members from NJ Sharing Network’s African American Planning Committee. Ten year old Aliyah Boatwright, a two time heart transplant recipient spoke to the crowd and provided living proof that organ donation saves lives.
